What are the milky spots?

The milia or the white, hard spots that can appear on the entire face are being formed when the keratin (produced by the skin) remains trapped under the skin surface creating a small cyst in the shape of white spots (primary milia). All people can get these spots, regardless of their age, but they are most commonly found in newborns. They usually appear on the face, the nose, the cheeks, and around the eyes.

What is the cause?

The cause for the appearance of milia in adults can be skin damage. They can also appear as a result of some already existing skin condition or as a side effect of a burn, blister, long-term exposure to sun, use of steroid lotions, and even repeated laser treatments and dermoabrasion. In the following text, we will go through several natural remedies that can help you reduce milia.

Face scrub made of lemon and sugar

The lemon has fantastic antibacterial, antiseptic, bleaching, and antioxidant properties. It has long been used as part of skin care products based on natural ingredients. For this scrub you will need sugar, lemon, and olive oil. Gently rub the scrub onto your face making circular movements and leave it on your face for about fifteen to twenty minutes, and then wash it off.

Honey

The honey is great when it comes to nourishing and hydrating your skin. When applied onto your skin, the honey will keep the moisture that has been absorbed and it will prevent drying out. Prepare a peeling using honey, sugar, and jojoba oil.

Castor oil

Castor oil is an efficient multi-purpose ingredient known for treating conditions like infections, constipation, bladder problems, and asthma. It is also an ideal ingredient for treating skin conditions such as acne and milia.

Steam your face

Steaming is an excellent way to remove the dirt from the face. Steaming the face improves the blood circulation and helps you to open the skin pores and remove the dead skin cells. Soak a towel in hot water and place it onto your face for several minutes and then remove it.

Narrow-leaved tea tree oil

Narrow-leaved tea tree oil is a natural means for skin disinfection. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties that help your skin become clearer and more resistant to infections. After you wash your face, apply the oil onto the area affected with milia. Leave it overnight, and then wash it off the following morning.

Pomegranate peel

Take a roasted pomegranate peel, powder it, and use its antioxidant effects to fight milia. Roast until the peel becomes brown, turn it into powder, and mix it with some lemon juice if you want. Apply the obtained mask onto your face, and let it stay on for about fifteen minutes. Repeat this procedure for a few weeks until the bumps and the white spots disappear.

Corn starch and apple cider vinegar

Make a paste using corn starch and apple cider vinegar. Apply the mixture onto the places with the white spots and let it stay on for about 25 minutes. In the end, wash the mask off your face.

Fenugreek leaves

In many cultures, fenugreek leaves are used for treating acne, blackheads, milia, and other blemishes. Take a handful of fresh fenugreek leaves and crumple them with some water into a mortar. The obtained paste should then be applied onto your face for fifteen minutes.

Remove the makeup before sleeping

The face skin is resting during the night, so you are recommended to take a good care of it and let it breathe and be clean and shiny throughout. While you sleep, your face is releasing free radicals that damage the healthy collagen in the skin. The dirty skin covered with makeup clogs the pores and contributes to the appearance of acne and other skin irregularities.

Stay away from direct sunlight

Stay away from heavy makeup, do not touch your face, never try to squeeze out the milia, and stay away from the harmful sunlight. Extended exposure to sun will worsen the milia and harm your skin.
